Toyota has a new Prius Prius and this one is bigger, sort of. It uses the same platform and full hybrid powertrain as the current version but squares off the back to gain more than 50 per cent more interior cargo space .

Called the Prius v, this version has been redesigned with an extended roofline with revised tailgate. Inside, the second row seats have slide adjustment  and can be reclined through 45 degrees. The valuable 60:40 split rear seat adds room, especially since the front passenger seat can also be folded flat.

Options include a panoramic sunroof, but the real story is the gas mileage which should be nearly the same as the exiting gas sippers. There will also be the fun power button for added acceleration and a CVT with electronic gear selector. Wireless multimedia systems are promised.

The Car Family thinks this is a winner and can’t wait until this summer to test one. Shades of the old Toyota Camry station wagon, though.
